An 15-year-old youth has been punished to life behind bars with a lowest duration of 16 years for the homicide of another student the deceased during a midday recess.

The perpetrator stabbed the victim, also aged fifteen, through the heart with a hunting knife at Sheffield's learning facility in the winter month.

Caroline Willgoose said she felt "as if a big burden has been removed off my shoulders" following the sentencing.

Caroline Willgoose stated she was relieved the base duration had been determined exceeding the statutory minimum of 15 years.

"My father has been having cancer treatment through the trial and he just couldn't hold on any further," she said.

CCTV from the occasion of the stabbing showed the killer approaching the deceased in the school yard shortly after noon.

During the legal proceedings, the defendant testified he had not intended to kill Harvey or cause him grave injury, asserting he could not remember what had transpired.

The state maintained that he had "desired to show he was formidable" and "knew exactly what he was doing".

"You acted as the provoker and... you proceeded in pain and anger at what you considered to be his treachery of your relationship," pronounced the judge during sentencing.

Aftermath

The educational institution issued a message stating that the student was "deeply remembered every day by the whole educational community".

Police officials emphasized the tragic outcomes of possessing weapons, commenting that a "split-second choice" can irreversibly transform multiple lives.
